Release Date 8.22.11 - The Role of Chiropractic Care in the Patient-Centered Medical Home Model

The Foundation is proud to present its white paper: "The Role of Chiropractic Care in the Patient-Centered Medical Home Model". Prepared by DISCERN, a respected consulting firm in the business/healthcare community, this paper is targeted towards stakeholders involved in the development of a Medical Home Model.

As an important tenet in the new healthcare law that is being implemented in both the public and private sectors, the Medical Home Model promotes a more efficient use of healthcare resources - striving to build clear and open communication among patients and families, the medical home and members of the broader care team. As a member of the broader care team, the Doctor of Chiropractic has many opportunities to become an integral part of the Patient-Centered Medical Home. These opportunities are detailed in this white paper and can serve as a starting point for a productive conversation between the primary care provider and Doctor of Chiropractic for the referral of appropriate patients from the medical home to the chiropractic care setting.

This document was developed with the guidance of two Medical Doctors and two Chiropractic Doctors, along with input provided by a panel of Foundation leadership. The two Chiropractic Doctors on the DISCERN panel included: Dr. Mark Zeigler and Dr. Steve Kraus. The Foundation panel included: Laura Carabello, Drs. Dan Redwood, Gerry Clum, Michelle Maiers and Chuck Sawyer.

The Foundation will be presenting this document to a number of varying groups. Initially, this material will be presented to the chiropractic profession through articles featured in both Dynamic Chiropractic and Chiropractic Economics, and during a workshop at the 2011 FCA National Convention. Following that, it will be promoted within the business/health community. Through media releases, targeted advertisements, and sponsorship of presenters and exhibit space at major industry conferences, this paper will receive widespread exposure to leaders within the healthcare industry.

A complete text of this paper can be found at www.f4cp.com, following August 22, 2011.
